at 7 pm. Meetings are open to the community and are held at Bethlehem Baptist Church,  7836 Fordson Road, Alexandria, VA 22306.

Guest Speaker William Dunn:

Author, Community Activist, Entrepreneur
 
William Dunn also known as “Dunn” is the author of Broken Wings: Inspirational Words, based on a true story by Dunn, a collection of true-life experiences written through poetic intellect. Broken Wings is not only an autobiography that tells about the life of Dunn, but it is also a book of inspirational words through poetry.

Dunn, who once was involved in gang activity, now travels around the world speaking to teen and adult groups about the importance of focusing on solutions instead of the problem. He has conducted workshops in Italy, Amsterdam, and Holland while working with the People to People Ambassadors youth program. To his credit he has spoken at youth conferences, workshops, juvenile jail facilities, national high school football camps, basketball camps, group homes, colleges and public schools across the United States. He spoke at the Jenna 6 Rally held in Washington, DC in 2007. He was featured in the documentary and book titled Being A Black Man: at the Corner of Progress and Peril, written by the staff of the Washington Post with an introduction by Pulitzer Prize winner Edward P. Jones. Dunn appeared as a radio personality as co-host for WPGC (DC) Talk 1580AM “M.A.C Show.”

Dunn was once told by his High School Principal that he would not “amount to nothing” now he is the author of Broken Wings: Inspirational Words, a book that sold out during the 5th Anniversary of the Capital Book Fest (MD) and at his debut book signing at the nationally known Borders Bookstore. Broken Wings: Inspirational Words currently is available on any online bookstore site and can also be found in the African-American section at the Borders Bookstore in Largo, Maryland.

Dunn works as a Facility Director for Maryland National Park and Planning Commission. In his position he oversees the daily operation of a multi-program community center that provides programs for young children, teens, young adults and seniors.

Dunn is a military war veteran, who fought in the Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom (OIEF) war from 2002-2003. Dunn served in the military from 1995-2004 receiving numerous achievement medals and ribbons in addition to the.

Dunn studied at Longwood University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation.  A graduate of the University of Maryland (University College) he received his Master of Science in Nonprofit Management and Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management. Dunn has worked in the helping profession and the nonprofit sector for over twenty years. In addition to his position as a Community Center Director he continues to work for the community in the following capacities: Board of Directors for The Lifting As We Climb Foundation and for White Oak Youth Sports Association, State Liaison for Operation Military Kids and Founder of Project We Care/Adopt A Soldier program. In spring 2010 he was appointed to the Friends of the College Advisory Board for the College of Education and Human Services for Longwood University.
