Freedom Fund Banquet

The Fairfax County Branch NAACP celebrated our 66th Annual Freedom fund Banquet on October 21, 2011. Thanks to the leadership of Mrs. Sheila Hawkins and her committee, the banquet was a rousing success again this year. Our theme was “Affirming the American Promise with Community Action. Prior to the banquet the NAACP membership had the opportunity to query, meet, and greet candidates running for local and School Board positions. Arthur Purves was the moderator for 11 candidates who came and shared their platforms with our membership.

Our gratitude goes out to the Fairfax County Fire Department providing their Color Guard unit team to support our opening ceremony and to Ms. Gail Arrington-Jones for her inspirational singing. Mr. Ralph Cooper III did an outstanding job performing as the Master of Ceremony during the banquet. Music during the banquet as performed by the Second Baptist Church Community Gospel Youth Band. Seven organizations were honored for their service and work with the homeless. These organizations were: Harvest Assembly Baptist Church, Good Shepherd Housing, New Hope Housing, Bethany House, Beth El House, Ventures in Community (VIC), and Rising Hope Church.
