The new committee on Fair and Affordable Housing formed by the executive committee in December with Mary Paden as chair is planning a policy agenda and two winter events.
To encourage state legislators to retain the Governor’s recommendation for $19 million over two years and other fund for affordable housing in a budget amendment, we sent testimony to House and Senate budget committee chairs as part of their statewide hearing process January 3. Our proposal for state policies include increased funding for the Housing Trust fund, legal support for those facing eviction and reform of harsh eviction laws, and reform of proffer laws to allow local jurisdictions to negotiate with developers for affordable housing and other community amenities.
