The Medicaid program is critical to serving the health needs of minority communities by making it accessible, affordable and available.

Medicaid expansion went into effect on January 1, 2019. Enrollment began in November of 2018. To date coverage has been extended to about 39,000 residents of Northern Virginia. This includes 3,198 in Alexandria; 2,955 in Arlington; 17,915 in Fairfax County; 371 in Fairfax City; and 130 Falls Church; 4,399 in Loudoun County; 1,016 in Manassas; 373 Manassas Park; and 9,694 in Prince William County.
